Project Security Lead, Nigeria

What’s the role?

Lead security risk management and functional support for all oil and gas project activities.Manage security risks relating to project activities to reduce security risks to As Low as Reasonably Practicable (ALARP). Provide an integrated security management system to cover project sites, operational areas/field security, and logistic / operational activities.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop activity security plans and ensure the plans are implemented.
  • Provide assurance on the level of security mitigations deployed across projects, including the sharing of learning across the team.
  • Contract Management of all security contracts within the project and interfacing with contractor security focal points.
  • Ensure compliance with security policies, procedures, and standards as per Group Security Standards and the Group HSSE&SP Control Framework.
  • Prepare/review activity/contractor security plans and deploy resources efficiently and effectively.
  • Analyse security intelligence reports and deploy security resources to mitigate risks.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with security stakeholders at tactical and operational levels in support of projects.
  • Fostering a culture of security awareness by conducting security briefings and awareness to project and contractor staff respectively
  • Liaise with Corporate / Government Relations in projects and provide necessary security support at times of community engagements and/or disturbances.
  • Manage all security activities, including access control, demonstrably reflecting projects HSSE strategy, policy, and guidelines.
  • Participate in the investigation of security incidents within team.
  • Participate in HSSE inspection of security facility deployed within the team.
  • Understanding the security and geo-political dynamics across the Niger Delta, especially Ohaji-Egbema area of Imo State. Develop security concepts to manage complex risks.
  • Managing other non-technical risks, and fully understanding scope of projects. Implement technical security requirements as part of project deliverable.
  • Requires willingness to multitask under intense pressure and tight timelines.
  • Work closely with the security intelligence team, including knowledge of appropriate technical security requirements.

What We Need From You

  • At least a bachelor’s degree from a recognized institution. Post graduate qualification in relevant fields will be an advantage.
  • Professional industrial security certification (Certified Security Project Manager, PSP or CPP from ASIS or equivalent body)
  • Good knowledge of E&P business, especially in the Niger Delta and Gulf of Guinea.
  • At least 10 years of relevant experience – minimum of 5 years industrial security experience in the Niger Delta.
  • Strong understanding of the political and security interfaces as well as stakeholder dynamics across the region and project areas.
  • Experience in audit and assurance would be beneficial.
  • Strong project management, strategic thinking, team working, conceptual analytics, planning, communication and writing skills. Ability to work across teams and collaborate with others to deliver result.
  • Experience in security risk assessments and managing security for a facility.
  • Personal passion and continuous improvement mindset.
  • Ability to manage and drive cost reduction: drive creativity and innovation.
  • Good computing skills and experience with managing data, creating, and managing simple database and general use of spreadsheet for activity planning. Experience with SharePoint and use of Excel may be an advantage.
  • Proven record of nurturing strong stakeholder relationships at every level.
  • Evidence of your resilience and ability to successfully manage challenge and conflict.
