Patria’s proposal will be officially presented at FIDAE (International Air and Space Fair), a major aerospace and defense trade show held in Chile. This information was reported by our colleagues at SA Defensa.

The AMV XP is a Finnish-designed armored vehicle that combines mobility, protection, and versatility. Depending on the configuration, it can measure up to 8.5 meters in length, 2.7 meters in height over the hull, and 2.8 meters in width, with a track width of 2.5 meters. It is designed to carry a maximum payload of 15,000 kg and reach a maximum combat weight of 32,000 kg, demonstrating its robustness and capacity to carry equipment and personnel.

In terms of performance, the AMV XP has a maximum speed of over 100 km/h, can climb slopes at a 60% gradient, navigate side slopes of 30%, overcome 0.7-meter obstacles, and cross trenches of 2.1 meters. It can also ford water depths up to 1.8 meters, with an optional swimming capability at speeds between 6 and 9 km/h. Its operational range varies between 800 and 1000 km, allowing it to cover long distances without refueling.

Protection is a highlight of the AMV XP, offering a modular system against bullets, mines, and improvised explosive devices (IEDs) that can be adapted to the specific needs of customers. The platform is also ready to integrate future protection technologies, ensuring its relevance in evolving combat scenarios. These features may well impress the Chilean authorities.

Its 6-cylinder inline diesel engine delivers a power output of 450 kW and a torque output of 2140 Nm, paired with an automatic transmission that has 7 forward gears and 2 reverse gears. Continuous all-wheel drive, hydraulically operated disc brakes with ABS, and a central tire inflation system underscore the AMV XP’s mobility-oriented design. The fully independent suspension with double wishbones and hydro-pneumatic spring elements, which can be adjusted in height, further enhances its ability to navigate challenging terrains.

Patria has a history of successful collaborations and technology transfers, as evidenced by its engagements with the defense forces of several countries, including Japan, Lithuania, Poland, and Slovakia, among others. These partnerships have involved not only the supply of vehicles but also the transfer of technology and local production licenses, demonstrating Patria’s commitment to long-term cooperation and support.

As the competition unfolds, the decision of the Chilean Army will likely consider a mix of performance, cost, logistical support, and the potential for local industry engagement. Patria’s offering meets these criteria, presenting a compelling case for the AMV XP as a future-proof solution that can enhance the operational capabilities of the Chilean Army. It remains to be seen if the AMV XP will convince the Chilean authorities in the coming weeks, so this is a situation to follow.
